Braving chilly weather, Indian-American s gathered at the Gandhi Statue in Washington and held a candle light vigil for the girl, who died yesterday in Singapore after battling for life for 13 days. In Melbourne, a large group of Indian men and women gathered in front of the Indian Consulate and lit candles to express their outrage over the incident. In London, NRIs, including teachers and housewives, gathered at the Mahatma Gandhi Statue at Tavistock Square and raised slogans. Theyheld placards demanding an end to assault and rape cases inIndia. “Band Karo Atyachar, save our sisters,” one of the placards read.</div>

SINGAPORE TO USE DELHI GANG RAPE CASE TO DEFEND DEATH PENALTY

<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on"> Singapore said it would cite the"heart-breaking case" of the Delhi gang-rape as an example to reject demands for abolition of death penalty in the city state. In a Facebook post, Singapore's Minister for Law and Foreign Affairs K Shanmugam said people were "sickened" by the horrific gang-rape and her subsequent death here. Describing the attack on"Damini' (NOT her real name) as a "heartbreaking case", Mr Shanmugam said he would often cite cases like these as examples when he discusses with people who want the death penalty in Singapore to be abolished.</div>
